Love

Showing love and appreciation for the people, places, and things that nourish me… here are a few of my favorites. Click the links to connect directly.

Good spots around town:

Southside Coffee – This place has served so many functions for me during my 4.5 years in Brooklyn: coffee shop, office, second home, “Cheers” quotient (where everybody knows your name…), gathering place, etc. Best coffee/espresso in Brooklyn and some of the most delicious fresh-baked goods around!

Crossfit South Brooklyn  – I’ve been a member here for over three years and can’t say enough about the quality of coaching, closeness of community, and strength and conditioning gains made possible by this place!

Brooklyn Open Acupuncture – Sliding scale makes this open clinic an affordable way to enjoy the process and effects of regular acupuncture treatments

Websites/Blogs:

Love Life Surf – A great blog for all manner of things surf, yoga, fitness, parenting, Brooklyn, and more, by my sweet friend Christine.

Health-Bent – Great Paleo recipes for all!

Yoga Studios:

Kula Yoga Project – The Tribeca location was my first and continues to be my home for Vinyasa Yoga practice in NYC.

Bend & Bloom Yoga – A serene haven for Vinyasa and other yoga styles in Park Slope, Brooklyn. I substitute teach and practice here!

Mala Yoga – An inviting studio in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn, for diving deep into all aspects of practice, on and off the mat.

Jaya Yoga – With incredible guest speakers and workshops, this little studio in South Park Slope, Brooklyn, packs a punch for taking the life-long practice of yoga to the next level.

People Who Inspire:

Julie Dohrman – Open your heart, align your body, grow your compassion… practice with Julie.

Marisa Sako  – She makes the basics simultaneously easeful and excitingly complex, and she breaks the advanced down into inspiring little steps to keep moving forward. Experience it all with Marisa.

Kevin Courtney – Kevin weaves the esoteric in with the minute details of anatomical alignment. You’ll leave his class feeling blessed and blissed-out.

Schuyler Grant – In her own words: “Over the years, I developed a signature style which integrates the breath based flow of Astanga and the precision of Iyengar into a deep, sweaty and transformative mind/body experience.” Yes, exactly. Get some.
